Originally Released 1970\nRepertoire CD Edition Released February 26, 1998\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: The single most accomplished album to be recorded by any of the Birmingham rock bands (which include the Moody Blues), Shazam is sort of Sgt. Pepper with an attitude, a mixture of expansive progressive rock worthy of the Beatles and high-energy music honed by years of playing loud on-stage. The rendition of Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing on My Mind" pushes these guys simultaneously into Byrds and Jimi Hendrix territory, while "Beautiful Daughter" is one of the most unabashedly pretty records of this era, and "Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited" is defiantly strange. I immediately bought the Move's US release "Split Ends" (since discontinued), featuring "Do Ya", "Tonight", "California Man" and most of the Message from the Country album. I wore out needles playing it. I then went in search of the three albums in the back catalog. \n\nShazam is schizophrenic. The Roy Wood side A is quirky and dated, although "Your Beautiful Daughter" did show Carl Wayne actually had some talent. Best thing he's done. And while the A side can be fun, I have to agree with the Jim Nabors post below. Bev's drumming was distracting. Surprisingly to me, the B side covers have held up over time. \n\nThe liner notes from Roy Wood's 'Singles' indicate that "Hello Susie" was a chart hit for some other band in the 60's.
