Various Artists Rock, Rock, Rock - From The Motion Picture (1956)
Rock, Rock, Rock - From The Motion Picture\n1986 MCA Records, Inc.\n\nOriginally Released 1956\nCD Editon Released 1986\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Rock, Rock, Rock contains three cuts from the Flamingos ("Would I Be Crying," "The Vow," "A Kiss from Your Lips"), four tracks from Chuck Berry ("Maybellene," "Thirty Days," "You Can't Catch Me," "Roll Over Beethoven") and five cuts from the Moonglows ("I Know from the Start," "Sincerely," "Over and Over Again," "I'll Be Home," "See Saw." Consequently, it leans closer to R&B or doo-wop than rock, but Rock, Rock, Rock was the name of the motion picture, so what are you gonna do? No matter which way you look at it, the record is quite entertaining, spotlighting all three artists at their very best. -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine\n\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Rock 'n' Roll's first soundtrack, March 23, 2004 \nBy redtunictroll (Earth, USA)\nThis 1956 album represents two "firsts": the first film soundtrack album (though certainly not the first film soundtrack) to feature rock 'n' roll, and the first album ever issued on the legendary Chess label. The original album features four songs from the film itself: The Moonglows' "I Knew From the Start" and "Over and Over Again," The Flamingos' "Would I Be Crying," Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me." Also included are additional sides from each of these three acts, highlighted by seminal Berry sides, "Maybelline," "Thirty Days," and "Roll Over Beethoven." Geffen's 2004 reissue adds a trio of period tracks to the original dozen: Johnny Burnette's "Lonesome Train (On a Lonesome Track)," Frankie Lymon's "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent," and Alan Freed's orchestral romp, "Rock & Roll Boogie."\n\nWith three cuts by the Flamingos and five by the Moonglows, the original album leans heavily towards doo-wop, but the addition of Johnny Burnette's rockabilly on this reissue gives the twangier country roots their due. Still missing are LaVern Baker's contribution, as well as the vocals Connie Francis dubbed for Tuesday Weld. Given that most of these tracks can be found elsewhere, this soundtrack is more of historic interest than a collecting necessity. \n\nHalf.com N/A
