Among those was Picture This Live, a 15-track collection of previously unreleased live versions of such Blondie staples as "Dreaming," "Hanging on the Telephone," "Sunday Girl," "X Offender," "Denis," "Fade Away & Radiate," "One Way or Another" and "Heart of Glass." Since a compilation like this was designed to appeal to collectors, EMI added some rarities -- versions of "You Look Good in Blue," "11:59," and a medley of "Bang a Gong/Funtime" -- but collectors would have been happier with a full concert instead of a hurried, haphazard disc like this. Of all the downtown New York bands that emerged from the new wave of the mid-seventies, only Blondie rode that wave up the pop charts again and again. Whether employing the disco chic of "Heart Of Glass" or the single-minded seduction of "One Way Or Another," Blondie fearlessly proclaimed their originality by daring to embrace whatever musical style suited their fancy. They dabbled in reggae; they flashed through disco; and with Debbie Harry occasionally striking a pose as the Marilyn of new wave, they even danced a night or two away in the decadent mansions of glam rock. But as evidenced on this, the only live document of Blondie (!), beneath all the costume changes was a good old fashioned American rock & roll/pop band built on the irresistible hook and the urgent throb.
