Dio - Stand Up And Shout CD1 (2003)
Stand Up And Shout: The Dio Anthology - Disc 1 of 2\n2003 Rhino/Warner Bros. Records, Inc.\n\nOriginally Released May 27, 2003\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Break out the ouija board and extra-hold hair spray -- because Stand Up and Shout puts you front row center to Ronnie James Dio's illustrious career. A mighty two-and-a-half-hour surge of molten metal, Stand Up and Shout begins with the classic rock/Stones-y blues-rock of Elf and makes a headlong voyage into his now infamous stints as lead vocalist of Black Sabbath and Rainbow before making a right-hand turn into one of metal's most successful solo careers. With theatrical live performances and tales of lasers, dragons, and holy divers, Dio captivated the mythical minds of a generation and in turn made him one of metal's most beloved singers. With generous photography and track-by-track liner notes from the man himself, Stand Up and Shout is easily the most comprehensive anthology of his resum, and quite simply a long overdue tribute to one of the most distinctive voices in heavy metal. -- Rob Theakston\n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nNot the Greatest Collection To A Veteran, May 29, 2003 \nReviewer: Jonathan B. Colombraro from Brewster, NY United States \nThis is a so-so collection of Dio music. For a new listener who wants something to pick up, it's alright in the sense that it will give you strong desires to go get the original albums. \n\nThe Elf material is good because it's rare - good old time blues rock. Nice hearing Dio plant his foundations as a metal singer here.\n\nThe Rainbow material is the weakest on the album. Man On The Silver Mountain is a classic song, sure, but there are SO many better Rainbow songs than Long Live Rock & Roll and Starstruck. I would have preferred to see Catch The Rainbow, Temple Of The King, and Stargazer. Don't be dissuaded by these songs - Dio's stint with Rainbow was some of his best work ever. Ritchie Blackmore is as good a guitarist as any Dio ever played with. Go get Rainbow's "Live On Stage" if you don't believe me.\n\nT
