It's Too Late To Stop Now (Waner Bros. Edition) - Disc 2 of 2\n1988 Warner Bros. Records, Inc.\n\nOriginally Released January 1974\nCD Edition Released 1988 ??\nPolydor Remastered CD Edition Released June 3, 1997\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: While Van Morrison is, to be kind, an erratic and temperamental live performer, he's in stellar form throughout the double album It's Too Late to Stop Now, a superb concert set that neatly summarizes his career from his days with Them (represented by scorching renditions of "Gloria" and "Here Comes the Night") through 1973's Hard Nose the Highway ("Warm Love," "Wild Children"). In addition to the hits, including "Caravan," "Domino," and "Into the Mystic" (the final line of which gives the album its title), Morrison even pulls out a handful of R&B chestnuts ("Bring It on Home to Me," "Ain't Nothin' You Can Do") before capping off the collection with a show-stopping rendition of Astral Weeks' "Cyprus Avenue." An engaging, warm portrait of the man at the peak of his powers. -- Jason Ankeny\n\nAmazon.com essential recording\nGiven his early roots in Irish show bands steeped in American R&B, Van Morrison's power as a live performer is as riveting in his "on" nights as it can be frustrating when he's not in the mood. But his sheer power as a singer, and his long tradition of crack bands, has translated to an awful lot of good nights--enough to spawn three compelling live albums, of which this is the first and best. Recorded during his San Franciscan residency of the early '70s, with his ambitious Caledonia Soul Orchestra, this double album documents Morrison at an early vocal peak and benefits from a set list culled from his early solo masterpieces, including Moondance and Astral Weeks. As such, It's Too Late to Stop Now clicks as both anthology and coherent concert document--a classic live album. --Sam Sutherland \n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nInto the Mystic with Van the Man, April 27, 2004\nReviewer: Joseph Townsend "the rake" (Hattiesburg, Ms. USA)\nThis two c/d set is from the great Van's concerts from the summer of 1973 recorded live in L.A. and London with his 11 emeber Caledonia Soul Orchestra (the string section is featured in the middle of Caravan). Maybe a little more blues in the song selections - two songs by Sonny Boy Williamson and one by Willie Dixon - than you might expect and how this album could completely shun 1972's Tupelo Honey album (at least he could have rocked the crowd with "Wild Night", correct?) is beyond me. The tempo for Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home To Me" does seem to drag a little, but this was probably Van's unique interpretation on that night. These are, however, the only relatively mild criticisms I would offer for a wonderful album. "Domino" really rocks, "Saint Dominic's Preview" is wonderful as is "Listen to the Lion". This is a much better album than the Live at the Belfast Opera House in my opinion. The ending on Cyprus Avenue is a great climax. The band is flawless, Van's vocals were never better. If I had to take just one of Van's albums away on an extended vacation this would be it, second is not even close. Buy this album.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nPerfection ?, August 12, 2001\nReviewer: Geoff Cox (New Zealand)\nI'm not a rabid VM fan, but I have always had a love and a respect for the mans work. A friend recomended this album to me for my collection of live albums, and I was not dissapointed when I listened to it in a used vinyl store. After taking it home and getting intimate with it, I was impressed with the excellent live acoustics on this record (other live albums tend to be frought with sonic imperfections - The Mothers at Fillmore East, and Live at Leeds are some obvious examples). In fact, There are no overdubs on this record at all. Everything that happened onstage is on this record, and it all sounds good,(including minor musical mistakes, the drummer dropping a stick, and Van himself tapping the side of his mic in places!) These imperfections not only serve to make the whole set more believable, but they add a dynamic that you only get on stage. This is a fantasic album for anyone who can look past the imperfection, and feel the soul.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nNot Unlistenable, August 20, 2000\nReviewer: David J Hamilton (Bellevue, WA)\nAs a kid in England I remember reading a bizarre review of this album in Melody Maker wherein VM was described as "unlistenable". When I read that I had just seen the TV movie with accompanying simulcast FM stereo sound that accompanied the release of the double album. 20 years later I still don't understand that review. This is simply one of the best live albums I have ever heard, I still listen to it on a regular basis , especially "Into The Mystic" "Caravan" "St Dominic's Previe" and "Wild Children". You cannot fail to be moved by the intensity of the performances captured. If anyone knows where I can find a copy of the movie of "Its Too Late To Stop Now" please let me know.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nI'm not a live album fan, but..., February 2, 2000\nReviewer: "gordon@ruraltel.net" (Oakley, KS USA)\nLive albums are so many times a way for a popular performer to get product on the shelves without the pressure of having to write new material and the cost of a big-time prodution budget, so it's easy for me to be cynical of them. \nHowever, there are a handful of live albums over the years that prove to be definitive in an artist's catalog, and this is surely one of them. I picked up the original vinyl release in a used record store many years ago, and expected a good show with a tight band, but I was not prepared for what I heard. The expanded band playing an excellent mix of perfectly chosen covers and early Morrison classics, all with great, unusual arrangements, astounded and totally captivated me. I felt like I had just had an out of body experience. \n\nAnyway, along ABB Live at the Fillmore and the Who Live at Leeds, this is a live album that, while maybe not transcending the studio versions, stands on its own as a testament of this man's unique genius.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nA genuine legend in absolute top form!!, September 1, 1999\nReviewer: jamesd_a@yahoo.com (United States)\nI've always thought it a damn shame that when you mention "Van Morrison", 90% of people will say "Uhh.....yeah, 'Brown Eyed Girl', right?" As "It's Too Late to Stop Now" proves from the first track to the last, there is SO much more to this phenomenal artist. I first got into Van when I heard "Wild Night" on the radio back in the early 70's. I bought "It's Too Late..." on vinyl when it first came out, but lost it somewhere over the years. I had forgotten how great it really was. In the Caledonia Soul Orchestra, Van put together the IDEAL band for his music. I defy anyone to find a tighter, more attuned group of musicians, even including the great live bands of James Brown. The horn and string arrangements are tremendous and provide the perfect environment for Van's unbelievable whispering, screaming, yowling and scatting vocals. The song selection includes R&B classics, and the best of early period Van including "Caravan" and "Cyprus Avenue". I actually prefer the version of "Listen to the Lion" here to the studio version on "Saint Dominic's Preview". Too many mind-blowing musical moments to count on this two disc set. Do yourself a favor. If you love Van Morrison, if you love rhythm and blues, if you love MUSIC, buy this CD NOW. Crawl into it, and LET YOUR BODY GO......\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nVan Morrison at his best..., October 14, 1998\nReviewer: SCOOTER@JLC.COM (San Diego CA)\nVan Morrison admitted in a recent interview that he does not much care for studio recordings, and after hearing this live recording you'll know why. This will immediately become your favorite Van Morrison album!!\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nNext Best Thing to Being There, August 23, 1998\nReviewer: Craig Riecke (East Syracuse, NY USA)\nI've always believed a live album should be fun. The songs have all been done before, after all. This album is not only great fun, it's a Van Morrison album you keep going back to. Hearing him bend "I Just Wanna Make Love to You" and "Take Your Hand Outta My Pocket" out of shape is a scream. He truly makes these songs his own. And of course, "Gloria" and "Here Comes the Night" are there too. It's like Morrison is showing off his record collection, and he loves it as much as I do mine. A superlative driving album.\n\nHalf.com Album Notes\nPersonnel: Van Morrison (vocals, acoustic guitar); John Platania (guitar); Nathan Rubin, Tim Kovatch, Tom Halpin, Nancy Ellis (violin); Terry Adams (cello); Jack Schroer (saxophone); Bill Atwood (trumpet); Jeff Labes (piano, organ); David Hayes (bass instrument); Dahaud Shaar (drums).\n\nRecording information: The Troubador, Hollywood, California; Santa Monica Civic, Santa Monica, California; Rainbow Theater, London, England.\n\n"Though he's released several fine live recordings over the course of his career, this is the definitive live Van Morrison album. From his fertile early-'70s Celtic soul-man period, this 2-disc set presents Morrison as one of the premier re-interpreters of American roots music. Backed by a loose-but-funky, horn-driven band, he recontextualizes Muddy Waters (""I Just Want To Make Love To You""), Sonny Boy Williamson (""Help Me""), and Sam Cooke (""Bring It On Home To Me"") for the post-Beatles generation.\nAt the same time, the versions of classic Morrison songs like ""Domino"" and ""Into The Mystic"" are even more fully realized than the studio recordings, with Morrison pouring his soul into every tune. The set list reaches as far back as Morrison's days with Them (""Here Comes the Night,"" ""Gloria""), and continues up through tunes from 1973's HARD NOSE THE HIGHWAY. A stirring, 10-minute-plus version of ""Cypress Avenue"" from ASTRAL WEEKS closes out the concert, and puts the cap on this stunning live document."\n\nIndustry Reviews\n5 Stars (out of 5)\nDown Beat (07/05/1962)
