Doris Troy: Doris Troy CD Track Listing
Doris Troy
Doris Troy (1970)
Originally Released 1970\nCD Edition Released June 30, 1992\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: An all-star cast supported Troy on her lone Apple effort: George Harrison, Billy Preston, Peter Frampton, Stephen Stills, Klaus Voormann, Jackie Lomax, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, and Delaney & Bonnie all contributed, and Harrison, Stills, Lomax, Preston, Voormann, and Ringo Starr pitched in on the songwriting, though Troy wrote or co-wrote most of the songs. Well-received by some critics, it really doesn't add up to the sum of its parts. Troy is in great voice, but much of the material is pedestrian, and the heavy rock/soul arrangements often have an over-beefy, early-'70s super-session feel. It works best when Troy puts the brakes on the hard rock to deliver emotional, slower soul tunes. The CD reissue adds five interesting cuts from non-LP singles and outtakes. -- Richie Unterberger\n\nAmazon.com Product Description\n1992 reissue of her long deleted sole album for Apple, originally released in the early 70's. First, there are many names on this album including George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Stephen Stills, Delany and Bonnie, Peter Frampton, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman and more. George, Billy, Stephen and Jackie Lomax wrote some of the tunes with Doris. Now that that's out of the way, I must say...this is a great album. Doris produced it herself except for "Ain't that Cute" which George produced. The feel and production sound is much like Billy Preston's Apple albums. A lot of soul mixed with rock. Very tight drums, hammond b's galore and alot of guitars. I do believe (although I'm not positive) that Doris plays most of the piano, which is really really worth hearing. Also has a Harrison sound on a few songs. Very good songwriting and of course Doris' absolutely amazing voice. (Makes the hair on my arms stand up). Digitally remastered for awesome sound. If you can find this album pick it up and crank it up. This is one album that deserves to be heard by the masses.\n\nHalf.com Details \nContributing artists: Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, George Harrison \n\nAlbum Notes\nPersonnel includes: Doris Troy (vocals), Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Billy Preston.
