Adam And The Ants Dirk Wears White Sox (1983)
Originally Released December 1979\nOriginal US LP (Remixed, Different Tracks + Cover) Released 1983\nUS CD Edition (retaining US LP mix, running order, and cover art) Released February 4, 1992\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: The original Ants lineup released only one LP, Dirk Wears White Sox for Do It in 1979. The album finds a young Adam Ant exploring the sometimes-awkward fusion of punk, glam, and minimalist post-punk with bizarre images and disturbing tales of alienation, sex, and brutality. And while the somewhat pretentious, overly arty lyrics and inexperienced playing are a drawback, the album offers a fascinating look at the Ants' formative years, capturing a raw energy that would be sacrificed for more polish on subsequent releases. [At the height of Antmania, Adam acquired the rights to the album, remixing it, dropping a few tracks, and adding a couple of early tracks for reissue in 1983 with a different cover for Epic. In 1995, Sony Music U.K. released a hybrid version for CD, restoring the cover art, original mixes, and the previously dropped tracks but retaining the additions and running order of the reissue. Epic chose to keep the remixed version for CD release in the U.S.] -- Chris Woodstra\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nThere's no reason to buy this., March 20, 2005\nReviewer: Scott Gibbons (Chicago)\nDirk Wears White Sox is one of the finest albums to come from the post-punk era. Quirky songs, great arrangements, fantastic musicianship, and very musical engineering. This American issue is an atrocity. I gave it 2 stars only because it does have some great songs on it. But it sounds like hell (flat, listless mastering) and the packaging and track selections betray the aesthetics that the Ants had going on in 1979. And most strangely, it contains material from two completely different lineups. If it had been released as a sort of "Best of Adam & the Ants Vol 1" it probably would have been acceptable (though shamefully incomplete!), but... anyway. Yeah. I imagine fans would be disappointed and as an introduction, it would give a misleading first impression. The 2004 remastered version is almost definitive (it substitutes another version of Kick in representing the Antmusic / B-Sides EP). THAT one is very highly recommended.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nClassic Punk-Era Antmusic, February 14, 2003\nReviewer: Shaun Burton (Peoria, IL United States)\nDirk Wears White Sox is one of those albums that quickly vanished into obscurity, overshadowed by the bands later successes at the height of their career 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' and 'Prince Charming'. The album reflects the punk roots of Adam and the Ants. On the CD you get two excellent bonus tracks, 'Kick' and 'Xerox'. My only complaint is that the song 'The Day I Met God' from the original vinyl release of the album does not appear on any CD version of this album, import or otherwise. I suppose in today's more politically correct environment it was a decision not to offend people that caused this track to be removed when the album made it to CD, but personally I think a 'parental advisory' or similar label would be a better choice rather than remove this classic song altogether.\n\nAMAZON.COM CUSTOMER REVIEW\nAdam, before being D'Artagnan!, January 15, 2002\nReviewer: karl bernard (Li
