Queens Of The Stone Age House Of Blues, Cleveland Ohio, Saturday, April 2, 2005 (2 Of 2) (2005)
Queens of the Stone Age\nWith Throw Rag\n2005-04-02\nHouse of Blues, Cleveland Ohio\nSATURDAY, April 2, 2005\n\nTaper: Roche\n\nGiant Squid cardioid microphones with bass roll-off, battery pack\ninto Sony MZ-R700 Minidisc, burned to CD-R on standalone Marantz,\nripped with EAC, Nero Wave Edit (volume adjusted +10), encoded with\nflac frontend.\n\nShow Notes\n\nQOTSA Lineup:\nJosh Homme (guitar, lead vocal, bass, Lanegan jokes)\nTroy Van Leeuwen (guitar, slide, keys, vocal, bass)\nAlain Johannes (bass, guitar, vocal)\nJoey Castillo (drums)\nNatasha Schneider (keys)\n\nThe pope died earlier in the afternoon and it snowed about four inches--\na white mess that congealed into dense wet slush on downtown streets by showtime. \nThat's spring in Cleveland for you. \n\nThis concert was recorded from the House of Blues balcony by Roche using \nGiant Squid cardioid microphones into a Sony MZ-R700 minidisc. The minidiscs\nwere later transfered to CD-R via Marantz standalone burner, then ripped to \nwav using EAC. Nero wave edit was used to boost volume +10, then CD Wave Editor \nwas utilized to mark tracks. Wave files were then converted to flac and burned\nwith Nero to data discs.\n\nNote: "The Blood is Love," track 15 on Disc One ends with a minidisc change. \nThis change is audible, as the band were engaged in a serious jam. Rather than fade\nthe track, I wove the remainder of the jam and the outro from my second \nminidisc into the track proper. It's unobtrusive, but it's an obvious disc change\nand should be pointed out. Disc Two begins without any fuss, starting at the onset\nof "Tangled Up in Plaid."\n\nJosh Homme and company rock, the Queens frontman often signaling his readiness \nto drummer Joey Castillo with a simple, "Eh!" Homme makes a couple funny references\nto departed Queens member Mark Lanegan (who ostensibly left the tour due to \nexhaustion) near the end of the show.\n\nSound quality is fair throughout, but crowd noise is substantial at times. Everyone \nin the balcony would have had an unobstructed view of the stage from their seats, but \nas soon as Queens came on a few kids and dumb redneck bald guys in the front row stood\nup, which of course forced everyone else to stand if they wanted to see anything. \nA guy a couple seats over from us was particularly irritated, and his venomous shouts\nof "Sit the f*ck down!" are heard at least seven times during the set. I apologize\non his behalf. One of the kids in the balcony front row literally stood for the \nentire show and alternately played air guitar and drums. His arms were constantly\noutstretched across an invisible fretboard or flailing at a Tama that wasn't there,\nand he just couldn't make up his mind who he wanted to be more--Homme or Castillo.\nIt was a deranged and schizophrenic puppet show, prompting my companions to dub \nthe shaggy-haired lad "Air Gui-drummer."\n\nHailing from California, openers Throw Rag were a comical cross between Sex Pistols\nand Black Flag. Full of testosterone and covered with tattoos, the quintet shed a \nlayer of clothing with each tune. The lead singer ended up wearing only maroon \nbriefs, and his washboard / bugle-playing partner amused the crowd by beating on the\nboard (labeled 'I'm Special') with spoons and gyrating his amble belly and hips like\na stuck pig. Their entire set is included here, and when converted to audio all\nfourteen tracks will fit onto your second audio disc following Queens.\n\nPlease trade freely and do not convert to lossy formats.\n\nArtwork Included.
