The Ultimate Yes - 35th Anniversary Collection (Disc 1) (2004)
The Ultimate Yes: 35th Anniversary Collection - Disc 1 of 3\n2004Rhino/Elektra Entertainment, Inc.\n\nOriginally Released January27, 2004\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: C'mon already. How many Yes compscan be issued with the same tracks on them? There's been the boxset, as well as numerous double and single issues, so what makesthis triple set so "ultimate"? All of the hits are here, just asthey are on every Yes compilation. There are numerous edited versions for either radio or for singles such as on "America," "It Can Happen," "The Calling," and "Homeworld." Inaddition there isa remixed version of "Big Generator" that adds literally nothingto the original. Disc three offers three acoustic tracks in versions of "Roundabout" and "South Side of the Sky," with a solo Steve Hackett six-string read of "Australia." Bottom line is that this is a recycle job. Period. It is not only not needed, it is noteven necessary for the punters who have rabidly followed the bandforever. -- Thom Jurek\n\nAmazon.com Customer Review\nThe Umpteenth Repackaging of "Roundabout" and Others, February 7, 2004 \nReviewer: Steve Vrana fromAurora, NE USA \nDon't get me wrong. I've been a huge fan of Yes since the beginning. I eagerly snatchedup YESYEARS in 1992, and with nearly an hour's worth of raritiesit was a box set worth adding to my collection. When the 5-CD INA WORD came out in 2002, I bought it, too. It not only broadenedthe scope of the earlier box, it brought it up do date coveringthe previous ten years. Now, however, Rhino/Elektra is asking meto shell out more money for essentially a condensed version of INAWORD? I don't think so.\n\nOther than the third disc of previously unreleased versions--mostly acoustic, there are only four tracks from the first two discs not found on IN A WORD. Obviously the third disc wasmeant to entice the die-hard fan, but it strikes me as nothing shortof extortion by the record company and I'mnot buying. If you're a casual fan and don't own either of theirprevious box sets, I'd say go forit. ULTIMATE YES probably includes everything you really need. For theserious fan, it depends on how deep your pockets are. \n\nAmazon.comCustomer Review\nYes35 Years and counting... very good stuff, February3, 2004 \nReviewer: Ken Woomer from Brooks City Base, TX USA \nI have listenedto this CD, and though I have all the releases of the YES classic lineup.. I am glad that this release was put out based on the last lineup of songs:\n\nROUNDABOUT: Steve Howe shows his true Chet Atkins influence, but the big standout is ...Rick Wakeman, theman who really adds spice to the band, and when he is not there, the group we callYES just rings a big different... he plays a piano on this stripped down version... and I must say that I like this version better. It alsocould be that I have seen Yes numerous times, and I must tell you thatI really don't look foward to them playing this song... but, if theyplay it this way in the future, I will look foward to it!! \n\nSHOW ME: I like this song.. and some other folks have compared it to materialfrom the ABWH era.. which is fine with me... I really enjoy materialfrom that era as well... it sort of reminds me of THE MEETING from ABWH. \n\nSOUTH SIDE OF THE SKY: I like this version a lot.. but I must tell you that I am a big fan of Rick. I think the more rick and maybe aless bit of JA would be a good thing... not a crack on Jon Anderson, but a plug for RW.\n\nAUSTRALIA: I swear to god that I have heard SH play this before. I think on the last tour.. anyway, nothing this man ever does is wrong.. and I think his solo release 'Natural Timber' is the best of any of the solo Yes releases...acoustic and beautiful.\n\nNEW WORLD SYMPHONY: This man is Jeckyll and Hyde. When he shows up in asong, it is incredible, and sonically wonderful. When he isn't up front, he often isn't heard atall.. in this song he really shows his chops.. BUT IN CONCERT this man is the band... he really hams it up and plays like a monster.\n\nMy review says this is worth your time if you are a avid collector. If you don't ha
