Various Scala On The rocks (2002)
This Is A Very Special CD :) \nScala Performing Rock and Pop Songs ! \n \nCD Promo: \nhttp://www.scala-the-best.be/Visuals/ontheRocks.jpg \nTMF Promo-Clip: \nhttp://www.scala-the-best.be/Downloads/scala_on_the_rocks.mpg\n \nThe Site: \nhttp://www.scala-the-best.be/index_E.html \nContains the curriculum, some musical fragments and \npress cuttings. \n \n*** \n \nYou could be very brief about Scala: a youth choir from \nAarschot, roughly sixty teenage girls, directed by two \ntalented brothers, and enjoying national and international \nrecognition. That Could be it. \n \n*** \n \nYou could say a lot more though: Scala is an exceptional \nensemble, inspired by the two brothers Stijn and Steven \nKolacny - http://www.kolacny.com ,\nwho - if they're not playing piano four hands - \ndirect their choir in an unparalleled manner. Stijn as the \nconductor, Steven at the piano. This combination produces \nfireworks that have already taken Scala to distant foreign \ncountires - and most of the time very loud - big shots of \nrock music. For example, at the Lowlands Festival in the \nNetherlands, in front of a bewildered, yet thrilled \naudience. A year before, the girls choir was on the big \nstage at Rock Werchter as the backing vocals section for \nthe headliner Hooverrphonic. \n \nNow this was quite a feat, but Scala is taking another big \nstep again. \n \nYou need to have the guts - some call it naivety - tot \ntwist the repertoire of a youth choir from classical into \nrock and pop music. And so they did, with success. We're \ntalking about sold out concert halls, fights over the last \nunsold tickets and standing ovations whenever Scala and \nthe Kolacny-brothers performed their Scala on the \nRocks-concerts under the most diverse circumstances. They \nperformed in the famous Studio 4 of the renovated Flagey \nbuilding (during a series of events of the Festival van \nVlaanderen) as well as in the Flanders Expo during the \nTMF-Awards 2002, where Scala was featured as special \nguest. During these highly appreciated 'pop-concerts' by \nthe youth choir, singers Jasper Steverlinck (Arid) and \nStijn Meuris (Noordkaap/Monza) also made their \nappearances. And time and again, it produced a \nsurprisingly beautiful and even manifested emotional \nfusion of a variety of musical genres. \n \nNow, this says something about the turns that a youth \nchoir with a vision can take. According to Stijn and \nSteven Kolacny it's quite simple though: "Whether it's \nBrahms or Garbage, in the end it's all 'music'. And \nwouldn't it be stupid and arrogant to think that an \nopen-minded audience cannot or should not love both \nextremes? As a matter of fact, that is just what the \naudience does." \n \nThis series of concerts Scala on the Rocks was digitally \nrecorded and is now released on CD. The result is \nsometimes startling documented: stripped of all trimmings, \nreduced to its bare essentials. The 15 songs (from 'Smells \nLike Teen Spirit' by Nirvana, 'Creep' by Radiohead and \n'All I Did' by Arid, to 'Van God Los' by Monza... Scala is \na game for anything) emerge from the speakers in a very \npeculiar way. Every breath is heard, every pedal stroke on \nthe B
