The Steve Miller Band: Greatest Hits 1974-78 CD Track Listing
The Steve Miller Band
Greatest Hits 1974-78 (1978)
Originally Released 1978\nCD Edition Released 11/30/1987\nDCC Gold CD Released October 21, 1997\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Greatest Hits 1974-1978 collects the majority of Steve Miller's biggest hits-- "The Joker," "Take the Money and Run," "Rock 'n Me," "Fly Likean Eagle," "Jet Airliner," "Jungle Love," "Swingtown" -- and seven album tracks that received a fair amount of airplay on album rock radio. The collection only covers a total of three albums --The Joker, Fly Like an Eagle, Book of Dreams -- with the latter two providing the bulk of the material. Because of this, "Living in the USA," one of Miller's biggest hits of the late '60s/early '70s, isn't included, but it isn't missed, since all of his otherhits of the '70s are included. The thoroughness of Greatest Hits1974-1978 makes it an excellent introduction to Miller, and for many casual fans, it also means that they can contain their SteveMiller collection to one disc. -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine\n\nAmazon.com Editorial Review\nGreatest-hits collections often deprivethe listener of the chance to experience an artist's true scope of talent. Not so with Steve Miller. His strength has always beenmore in crafting an occasional blast of FM-radio heaven rather than a dozen solid album tracks. Greatest Hits 1974-78 chronicles the best singles from Miller's most successful years, after he veered from Haight-Ashbury bluesy trippiness to more accessible blues-based pop-rock. There are the slippery grooves of "The Joker" and "Fly Like an Eagle," and there's the air-guitar-beckoning riff-rock of "Take the Money and Run," "Jungle Love," "Rock 'n Me," and "Jet Airliner." Don't expect groundbreaking art, expect references to the "pompatus of love" and instant gratification. Requisite listening at the classic-rock keg party. This gold version ofthe title offers superior sound quality for a higher price than the standard-issue CD. --Neal Weiss \n\nAmazon.com Editorial Review\nGreatest-hits collections often deprive the listener of the chance to experience an artist's true scope of talent.
