Van Morrison
I Like Candy - disc 1 (Duesseldorf 12/19/98)
Recorded live at the Philipshalle, Dusseldorf, 12/19/98.\r\n[the Rockpalast Christmas Special]. Broadcast live on TV (complete \r\nshow - first part)\r\n(TV>?>CDR)\r\n\r\nMusicians:\r\nRalph Salmins - drums, \r\nPee Wee Ellis - saxophone, \r\nMatt Holland - trumpet, \r\nJohn Savannah - keyboards,\r\nJohnny Scott - guitar, \r\nNicky Scott - bass, \r\nKatie Kissoon - backing vocals, \r\nFred Wesley - trombone; \r\nGuest: Candy Dulfer - Sax\r\n\r\nNotes from Hayward's VM site: \r\nVan's show at the Rockpalast Christmas Show in Dusseldorf will \r\nlikely go down as one of Van's most famous concerts: it was \r\nbroadcast live; it is an excellent show; the band was buttressed by \r\nCandy Dulfer and Fred Wesley. The Internet quickly spread the \r\ngospel of this show's contents, and that same Internet helped to \r\nspread quite quickly excellent videotape and audiotapes (as well \r\nas CDRs) of the performance. So, was there a need for me to \r\nsplurge for The Polar Bear boot of the show, which Polar Bear \r\nclaims to be a "soundboard" recording? No. Did I? Absolutely. \r\nAs even my wife contents, my Van hobby may be expensive, but is \r\nquite benign in the face of other "hobbies" that are out there. \r\nWhile I am not an audiophile, to my ear this is a SB recording, and\r\nit is a notch above the excellent FM recordings that are available \r\nthrough the Van-List and Van-Trades folks. Katie Kissoon's \r\nbackground vocals are extremely clear and the instrument's \r\ncontribution is felt both individually and collectively. A superb \r\nrecording of a great show.
