David Grahame Beatle School Graduate Class of '70
CD-R pressing.\n\nDog Turner Records\nAlan Faber Presents\n\nCurtis Taylor - slide guitar on "Love Is Out There".\nBrian Cabrera - congas.\nThanks to Cynthia & Tyler Grahame and Mark Johnson.\nGraphic design - John McCly.\n\n\nDavid lifts pop fans up. Up To Pop Heaven, that is. Tongue in cheek title? Negative...talk about poring over pop archetypes....want one artist to name whose spirit is evoked throughout. Emmit Rhodes. After thatfollows Pete Ham, Paul McCartney and Jeff Lynne (circa The Move). 13 as perfect gems as they come this side of Myracle Brah...plenty of jangle andhand claps. (www.notlame.com)\n\n"Hats off to a singer/songwriter/musician who is without peer in the power pop community...setting the pop multi-trck standard for the next Millenium!" Amplifier. Well, that beats my own hyperbole (not an easy feat, mates!). But all too true. Sure y'all tireof the Badfinger, Beatle name droppings, but take my word...Get over ithere and plunge in...the highest of personal Not Lame recomendations here.Hot on the heels of his previous album 'Toy Plane' David Grahame continues to mine the same seam discovered by the Beatles. Even the albums design tips a nod to the white album with its plain white cover and embossedlettering. All the greatness of the first album is still in place here but the overall sound is even better. Whereas before there was stripped down piano and acoustic guitar backing this one has more of a fuller production with chiming guitars complementing the vocal harmonies providing thebest album the Beatles never wrote and one which would have provided a more worthy follow up to Abbey Road than the more cobbled together Let It Be. While 'Love Is Out There' may steal the guitar riff of Julia from theaforementioned white album the song is one of the most heart wrenchinglygorgeous songs ever written and a definite highlight of the album. In fact allthe songs are of such a high standard its hard to choose a favorite track. "Music fans - the "sophomore jinx" myth has been shattered! Withthe release of his second stunning album in less than a year, David Grahame should earn permanent membership in the Pop Music Hall Of Fame....Like Toy Plane, Beatle School Graduate Class Of '70 has its share of Beatles, Paul McCartney, Emmit Rhodes and Jeff Lynne references...Just like Toy Plane, this masterpiece of an album will challenge for the #1 position inpop's annual rankings. This new album is filled with hooks, riffs, instrumental intricacies, lead vocals and choruses that will confuse many listeners into believing that these songs are performed by a group - not a single artist. David Grahame may indeed be a graduate of the Beatle School, but verysoon pop artists will aspire to be graduates of the David Grahame School! Hats off to a singer/songwriter/musician who is without peer in the indie pop community! "- Eric Sorenson - Amplifier Magazine.\n\n"There's no sarcasm intended in this album title, folks: while Grahame may bow at the altar of Paul McCartney, he's one of the few who are talented enough to be invited in for dinner. Beatle School Graduate Class Of '70 is a work ofdepth and clarity, and every track is brimming with beautiful melodies as well as Grahame's soaring voice... If Freud were alive today, he would pronounce Beatle School Graduate Class Of '70 as a window to thesoul of the estimable Mr. Grahame, and this is one window you'll hope never closes" - Sticks & Stones
