Rex\n\nOriginally Released July 16, 2002 (UK Edsel Records)\nRhino 2CD Expanded Edition Released November 8, 2005\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: First, full disclosure is necessary as to what's missing. Ready? On this glorious 38-track, double-CD collection, there isn't one track from T. Rex's Electric Warrior. That's right, "Bang a Gong," "Mambo Sun," and "Jeepster" are all absent. Why? Simple: it appears Warner is recalcitrant to license that wondrous album to anyone in any form. It turns out that this is simply a small complaint because none of the tracks from Electric Warrior should be separated from its full corpus anyway -- it is an album in the purest and more literal sense of the world. Getting to what is here, listeners do get tracks from that beautiful slab The Slider as well as Tanx, Light of Love , Bolan's Zip Gun, Dandy in the Underworld, Futuristic Dragon, and a slew of 45s never issued on LP. If you are looking for "Sunken Rags," it's here; if you need "Mad Donna," it's also here. So are "Metal Guru," "Telegram Sam," "Solid Gold Easy Action," "Children of the Revolution," "Baby Strange," "20th Century Boy," "Satisfaction Pony," and "Born to Boogie." Right, it's packed with nary a dolt in the whole mess. While much of this -- in fact all of it -- has been compiled in other places, this one's remastered sound takes precedence over the rest of the lot. If you are enough of a Marc Bolan freak to want a T. Rex orgy once in a while and don't need all the studio LPs, but you're not a rabid completist, then pick this one up, add to it that remastered version of Electric Warrior, and you will have a listening -- or party -- experience of thoroughly unexpected results at your disposal. -- Thom Jurek\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Since Marc Bolan's own label issued its first greatest-hits package back in 1973, there has been no shortage of collections rounding up the peerless sequence of 18 singles (some with multiple B-sides) released between January 1972 and Bolan's death in September 1977. Indeed, this set was itself just a few months old when its contents were redistributed across two box sets' worth of CD singles, each one replicating the original U.K. 45. As a simple one-stop chronological gathering of the Bolan jukebox at its born-to-boogie best, however, this two-disc package is hard to beat. In common with the two single-disc collections that it supersedes, the discs are divided neatly between A-sides (disc one) and B-sides (disc two), a running order that traces Bolan first from "Telegram Sam" to "Celebrate Summer" and then from "Cadillac" to "Ride My Wheels." And it would be futile to try and pretend that the B-sides disc, at least, does not have its highs and lows, as it swings from the tight sexuality and swaggering electricity of the 1972 vintage "Lady," "Thunderwing," and "Born to Boogie," to the somewhat plodding disco offcuts that were "Groove a Little," "Tame My Tiger," and "Dock of the Bay." The A-sides disc, on the other hand, offers an unyieldingly even footing -- not every Bolan single was a major hit, but every one should have been, and the thrill of hearing even such mid-decade slump epics as "Light of Love," "London Boys," and "Laser Love" is not diminished by repetition. Meanwhile, the opening salvo of "Telegram Sam," "Metal Guru," and "Children of the Revolution" offers a dramatic overture that few, if any, acts have even come close to emulating. -- Dave Thompson\n\nAmazon.com Album Description\nThe phenomenally popular and influential T.Rex spearheaded the glam-rock movement, a genre owing everything to its quintessential superstar, Marc Bolan. Rivaled only by Bowie, whose own glam period followed in their flamboyant footsteps, Bolan and T.Rex created an incredible vibe and sound whose legacy lives on still. Driven by simple grooves, effortless hooks, trippy vocals, and deliciously fat guitar riffs, their music was infused with both hippie spirituality and raw sexuality-a rich, ripe sonic delight at once primative and evolved. Their classic songs helped define an era, and their irresistible grooves are timeless. \n\nThis double CD mid-price package features all 19 A-sides issued on Bolan's own T. Rex Wax Co. label during his lifetime, accompanied chronologically by their 25 B-sides (several singles had two tracks on the B-side). Many of these singles did not appear on Bolan's contemporary albums. Packaging is based on the distinctive blue & red T. Rex Wax Co. 7 inch single label & house bag design. Also includes an extensive track-by-track annotation. \n\nHalf.com Details \nProducer: Tony Visconti \n\nAlbum Notes\nThis 2 CD set contains 44 tracks.\nIncludes liner notes by Mark Paytress.\nMarc Bolan & T.
