Aleph-1: Aleph-1 CD Track Listing
Aleph-1
Aleph-1 (2007)
iDEAL Recordings 2007Aleph-1 is a new moniker chosen by Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto, Noto) to reach another stage of his work-in-progress. This term refers to the Continuum Hypothesis formulated by Georg Cantor (1845-1918), a mathematician who proposed the numerical theory of infinite sets which expand numbers to infinite possibilities. In order to transpose this into music, Carsten sketches "Aleph-1" on a layer of rhythm weaved with melodic inserts, which produces an iterative, circular effect controlled by a sense of mathematical precision. The eight tracks have an end (or not, considering that the listener has the possibility to reproduce them infinitely: to have an idea, just try to play looping one), but this end doesn't preclude their capability of extension into a spatial and temporal dimension. It's a work that requires several listenings to assimilate the spirit and the intentions which animate it.The first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the first uncountable cardinal, towards the infinity
This misc cd contains 8 tracks and runs 48min 50sec.
