Originally Released 1953\nCD Edition Released ???\nRemastered + Expanded CD Edition Released June 9, 1998\n\nAMG EXPERT REVIEW: Trumpeter Chet Baker was an up-and-coming star when he recorded these three sessions during 1953-54 with a full string section. Reissued on CD in 1998 with two additional alternate takes (this music last came out in 1991) and updated liner notes, the music is strictly instrumental; Baker had not begun to sing very extensively yet. The emphasis is on his mellow horn; the string arrangements (by Johnny Mandel, Shorty Rogers, Marty Paich and Jack Montrose) are not too harmful, and there are short spots for tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims, altoist Bud Shank and pianist Russ Freeman (who contributed "The Wind" for this date). Not essential, but the melodic music (which includes such numbers as "You Don't Know What Love Is," "Love Walked In," "I Married an Angel" and Rogers' "Trickleydidlier") is quite pleasant and lightly swinging. -- Scott Yanow\n\nJazziz Editorial Review\nJust six years after Columbia Records introduced the 33 1/3 LP (in 1948), the label unveiled another successful innovation: a trumpet-and-strings album by Chet Baker.
