John Playford was born in Norwich. England in 1623 and died in London in 1686. He is best known for his publication of The English Dancing Master in 1651, which was a compilation of music and instructions for well-known English Country Dances. This project features tunes from the 1651 edition of this publication, including some dances that are reproduced for the first time, others that are popular amongst the ECD crowd. \n\nA complete set of dance instructions is available on our Web site, www.wandering-hands.com/Playford.htm.
