Fela Anikulapo Kuti Music is The Weapon of the Future
FELA ANIKULAPO-KUTI, the incendiary Nigerian saxophonist,\nbandleader and inventor of the Afro beat, "joined his ancestors,"\nas he would have put it, on Aug. 2 in his hometown of Lagos, \nNigeria. He was 58. Fela died of heart failure, but his much\nscarred body had already survived not only the AIDS virus but\nyears of beatings by the military dictators whom he battled in \nhis music and his life. Over his relentlessy churning, home-\nfueled music, Fela preached in pidgin English, sprinkled with \nthe Nigerian tribal language Yoruba. He excoriated corrupt\npoliticians, multinational corporations, the army and the colo-\nnail system with brutally sardonic honesty. Impassioned about \nAfrican science and magic, Fela would point to the soft pouch\nhe wore around his neck and say, "I have death in my pouch;\nthey can't kill me."\n\nFela decided, in 1975, to change his "slave name" from\nRansome-Kuti to Anikulapo-Kuti (which means "the hunter who\ncontrol, death with the amulets in his pouch").\n\nOn this album you will find three unique performances of some\nof Fela's best known compositions. Go Slow, Roforofo Fight,\nand Suffering & Smiling. All studio recordings. All previously\nunreleased versions.
This folk cd contains 3 tracks and runs 45min 30sec.
