Hotpoing Steppin' on Cords (1999)
Mark Burhans, fiddle & swing vocals, is a woodturner by trade. Check outhis work here. And the rumors are true: He is happily married to Hilarie, and yes, they were high school sweethearts\n\nHilarie Burhans, banjo & swing vocals, is currently teaching Adult Basic Literacy and helping folksprepare to take the GED. This is rewarding, but doesn't sound nearly asinteresting as her former job, which was teaching Culinary Arts for a college in six prisons throughout central and southeastern Ohio. (Yes, withknives. How else can you learn to cook?) \nMarlene Shostak, piano, has had a number of interesting jobs, ranging from being a court reporter, to owning a sub shop, to clogging with her attorney husband Bob Shostak as amember of the Coal Country Cloggers. She's currently working as the office manager in her husband's law firm. \nBoth Pokey (Mark Hellenberg, percussion, and the only single member of the band!) and Rusty (Mark) Smith, guitar, are announcers at Ohio University Public Radio. You can hear Rusty inthe evenings, playing jazz, and Pokey in the afternoons, playing classical music. \n\nBut in our opinion, the best time to listen to WOUB is on Sunday nights, when they alternate hosting their show Audiosyncrasies from8-midnight, Eastern Standard Time. Listen to it live on streaming audio here. \nJoe Crum, bass, is a mechanical engineer at ADIC in Ithaca, NY. His contradancing wife Kim has opened a private practice in Internal Medicine (amazingly, only about 1,000 yards away from where Joe works!) and isvery busy doctoring folks. Joe also contributes the bizarre sounds of the didgeridoo, circular breathing and all, to the rather unique Hotpoint mix. \nNick Weiland, who is a speech/language pathology supervisor by day,has been sharing both bass-playing duties and the title of Mr. Congeniality with Joe for several years running. Good thing they share well, because we really couldn't decide which of them to award that prize to!
This folk cd contains 12 tracks and runs 50min 33sec.
