what is the source for this list? i've seen it repeated on the internet loads of times, but it appears to be wrong. i'm referencing Billboard's Hottest Hot 100 Hits 3rd edition (2003) by Fred Bronson. it's an official Billboard book with top 100 hits per year. your list differs significantly. for instance, the top 10 in the book are as follows:
01 Say You, Say Me - Lionel Richie
02 We Are the World - USA for Africa
03 Careless Whisper - Wham! f/ George Michael
04 Crazy for You - Madonna
05 Broken Wings - Mr. Mister
06 Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon
07 Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
08 Shout - Tears for Fears
09 I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner
10 Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears
the #1 hit of 1985 (according to Billboard) isn't even on your list that's supposed to be Billboard's top 100 hits of 1985. insane!
