Various Artists Sheiks & Vamps: 1920s Dance Bands (1920)
Perhaps the most neglected era in the entire history of Jazz is its earliest years. Most Jazz fans are familiar with Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis; but only collectors of original 78s know about Bennie Krueger, Isham Jones and George Olsen. These bands, along with the countless regional dance bands across the country, took Dixieland, Ragtime and Military Band music and merged them into an entirely new form of music designed for dancing.\nVIP Records & CD's\nGet Sheiks And Vamps Stuff! VIP Records & CD's\nThis collection of sides from the Brunswick, Vocalion, Cameo, Victor and Columbia labels clearly shows the progression from raw, unschooled "Jass" to what was to become the Big Band sound. Even if you think you have never heard this music before, one listen to the MP3 samples will reveal that this sound is ingrained in your memories from childhood... This is the music that inhabited the classic cartoons of the early talkie era. The collection is an even mix of acoustic and early electrical recordings, and it runs a full 80 minutes in length.
This jazz cd contains 27 tracks and runs 79min 57sec.
