Hi! This list is really incorrect. I would go with Armenia.. If you are a Christian you would definitely know its Armenia because Noah's Ark came to rest at Armenia. Also I looked up Armenia and found out that Armenia was also called Urartu and Urartu dates back to 860 BC.

This list is completely incorrect. I have studied geography and world history through out my life. I have been to many parts of the world, and from my discoveries I have found that Armenia is actually THE OLDEST NATION on this planet. Armenia dates back to 860 B.C..Armenia has stayed Armenia since than. Same language and same traditions. If you want to talk about civilizations than I don't know. But the first nation to exist would have to be Armenia no doubt about it.

This list is soo wrong. Did they even try to do the research? It was quiet laughable when some people thought England was oldest. FAR. FROM. IT. One thing, Scotland is the oldest out of Great Britain. First settlers came over 9000 years ago and the first villages created was over 6000 years. Scotland was named Alba back then. Scotland was around when the Ancient Roman Empire was around. Scotland even fought against them when they tried to take them over. Fun Fact: The word Scotty/Scott/Scot ect.. was a Roman word for the Gaelic speaking people...thus Scotland. Roman actually had a huge part/impact in the development of Britain.

This list was very, very, very innacurate. Those countries are new, baby countries compared to Europe, and especially the rest of the world. If talking about europe I would say the oldest nation with the oldest people is probably Albania, although it's not very well known, and popular. It's people were there long before the greeks who came there if my memory serves me right around 1500 BC, and of course long before the slavs who came there around the 9th-11th century AD. A tribe of the albanians called the ETRUSCANS are also held responsible for the formation of Rome by some historians, and this belief is growing stronger as archeological descoveries point to it.
When talking about the world I believe Iraq, India, or China to be the oldest nation. Wasnt the Messopotamian Empire the oldest civilized empire, and it's descendant today is Iraq. For India, and China I can't provide any fact for sure, but I remember from history that they were in the top oldest nations on the world. To the main topic, the list is pretty....inaccurate. There were obviously countries before "AD/BCE" Ethiopia, Egypt and China for example.

France is one of the oldest countries in Europe. Hungary is older (and was around in BC).

But, as to the oldest country in the world, I would have to say Ethiopia should definitely be on the list. China as well. I don't think there is an established answer, as to this question anyway. People are still discovering, things after all.

To the person who said America has the second oldest constitution; look up the definition of "constitution". And the CIA is crap.

the oldest place in world is middle east the countries such as Iran, Iraq, Egypt and ect. but to answer this question is difficult, from latest discoveries I can say Iran believes to be the oldest country . may be it will be change to another country. The list above is so stupid you list the newest country in the world.

In reality japan does need to be on the list. You can arguably use emperor ojin as the start of the early japanese state of yamato in 270 AD though as these dates are often disputed you could use the Taika reforms of 646 AD to establish that yamato existed at least as one continuous nation from that point forward. However there is significant evidence from both China and Korea that Japan has had a single state, Wa, from at least the 3rd century AD putting it at #2 minimum #1 maximum on the list.

China cannot be considered as a continuous independent nation until after the fall of the mongol controlled yuan dynasty and the founding of the ming dynasty. Though many use the current chinese state as having existed since Mao founded the PRC in 1949.

Iran lost control to the mongols in the mid 13th century and did not regain local Iranian rule until the Safavid dynasty of 1501.

England is usually considered founded in 1066 after the end of the viking invasions.

The current Indian state was founded through Ghandi's actions in 1947. Though really before British rule there never was a truly unified India.

France is often said to be founded by the Treaty of Verdun in 843 though you could say that the Dynasty that lead them there, which was founded in the early 8th century under Charles Martel in which he unified the Franks to fight the Islamic invasion from Spain.

Also, Turkey cannot be used as they were founded by the Seljuk in 1071.

I could go through more but some of them start to become moronic and I don't feel like it. :p

Bulgaria was established in 165 AD.

China wasn't even called China until 221 BC when the Chin dynasty was established. Before it was composed of several warring states each with their own ruler. Even after this dynasty was established it fell after only 20 years following by a sucession of other dynasties. So China is not even close to being 5000 years old much less the oldest country in the world.

The first Bulgarian state in Europe is found 165 AD.Bulgars as nation are known since 5th centuty BC.Later in 631 AD is found the Old Great Bulgaria(also called Bulgaria of Kubrat) in the area between the Black sea and the Caspian sea.In present borders the state of Bulgaria was established in 681 AD.In that year khan Asparuh, son of Kubrat and leader of a branch of the nomadic Bulgars who were imigrating in their search of new land and living,crossed the Danube river
and managed to unite the local Slavic tribes and ancient Thracian people into a common state.Medieval Bulgaria was one of most powerful states in Europe.
In fact in the 8th sentury there were only 3 important states in Europe:the Frankish empire,the Byzantine empire and the Bulgarian khanate.
Bulgaria is the only contry in Europe which hasn't changed its name for almost 20 centuries.

Hungary is one of the oldest country dating back to 896. First king (St. Stephen) crowned in 1000.

well as far as i can see your all wrong Denmark is the oldest nation in the world the danish flag dates back to around 1219 a.d. and the first british king was in fact a dane not to mention that the reason they call it normandy is because of the viking occupation there normandy means northmen scotland france england ireland and many more countries where occupiede by the danes of course back then Denmark was a big nation consisting of sweden and norway and a big part of germany and poland there have even been found evidence that the vikings where the first to set foot in northamerica but if you talk in terms of country wise and not nations greece and egypt are perhaps some of the oldest

& the winner is: San Marino is the oldest country in the world (301 AD) followed by France (486 AD) with Denmark (950 AD) coming in 3rd...

i belive that the worlds oldest country is ENGLAND beacuse we have a lot of history and many many countries have originated from ENGLAND and have stolen our city names e.g America with NEW york, NEW hampshier and lots more with a lot more countries

If you're talking in terms on not being invaded or occupied England (1066 AD) and Thailand have to be some of the oldest. India was a British colony so that doesn't count. Most parts of France have being owned by England/Spain/Austria at some point as well as being occupied in two world wars. Denamsrk was also occupied in WWII
