I MUST SAY HOW IMPRESSED I WAS WHEN I LOOK AT THE COMPARISON. MY CANADIAN FRIEND AND I WAS IN A HEATED ARGUMENT THAT THE USA WAS BIGGER THAN CANADA I WAS SO WRONG. I must say, that I don't think anyone really answered the question. The question plain & simple, is what is the biggest land mass in the world. If it were country land mass, then I am afraid Russia is discounted, despite it's previous size. China has a good chance though. given that, even though there were many attempts at overtaking & dividing it, it still remains a whole, outside of it's neighboring countries. It seems that the answer might well be Russia & the area surrounding it, to be fair. |

Was this some school project pasted on a website cause your info is a little outdated. Russia is now recognized as a bunch of independant countries and cannot be defined as one large country. How is the US not larger than China. Are you not including Alaska and Hawaii?? Regardless, CANADA is the largest land mass under one flag, that's all you need to know. Your figures are off and I feel bad for all the kids who got sub-par marks on their geography projects because of the geography wiz who wrote this drivel. |

your using diffrent numbers. a countries water(sq km) plus land(sq km) equals total land mass(sq km). On China you used total land mass, on US you used only dry land. Both numbers are usefull, but when comparing use the same standard. Russia is by far the biggest country in the world. No doubt about that. I don't know what that one guy was saying. |

the 2004 world almanac indicates that canada should be 9,220,970 sqkm ranking it third. there are also other small discrepencies concerning sqkm, as well as replacing sudan as #10 over algeria. thank you. |

Hey Billy, Russia given there is devoid of Ukraine, Kazakh, algeria, etc. as you can see Kazakhistan down in the list. Did you consider this, all the former parts of India - Pakistan and Bangladesh still appear in top ten most populated countries along with India at 2. And if you combine with china, OH MAN that area is soo much big in population. Ever wondered why... |

Russia is the country name in conventional short form. The conventional long form of the country name is the Russian Federation. |
